Birds in the family Picidae include woodpeckers, piculets, wrynecks, flickers, sapsuckers and flamebacks. They are found in many parts of the tropics and mid-latitude regions, although they don’t occur in Australia, New Zealand, Madagascar, New Guinea and the polar regions.
