We had two full days of birding with local bird guide Diego Gallegos on 1st and 2nd October and the first of these was spent around Samborombon Bay, which is located about 60 miles southeast of Buenos Aires. This is a lush agricultural area that hosts a wide variety of bird species and we stopped frequently to explore the cultivated fields and more marshy and water-covered areas.

After a successful morning birding around the fields, we had a very nice picnic lunch that Diego had prepared for us.

Once lunch was over we moved on to find birds on and around the bodies of water that pepper the area. As well as all the birds, we also saw a Coypu swimming across one of the lakes.

During the day we saw a number of raptors flying over as they hunted for small mammals in the fields. There were also ducks moving between the many water bodies in the area.

After our long day of birding we enjoyed dinner at the La Estancia steakhouse near our hotel in central Buenos Aires.
