We continued our journey eastwards on 14 February, spending some time birding at Lake Obeechobee, which has an excellent network of trails and is especially good for waterbirds. There we saw Mallard, Common Moorhen, Glossy Ibis, Anhinga and Pied Billed Grebe on or close to the water. We were fortunate to see a Boat-tailed Grackle, which has a limited range in the USA, but is fairly common in Florida.

The trails through the forest were also very productive with a range of warblers and other passerines being seen, including Northern Parula, Eastern Phoebe, White-eyed Vireo, Common Yellowthroat and Blue-grey Gnatcatcher.

During the Florida trip, including at Lake Okeechobee, we saw lots of Osprey with the blue skies providing a lovely background to the photos of the birds in flight.

Towards the end of the day we witnessed a flock of Sandhill Cranes coming in to roost in a field and we spent time photographing these beautiful birds in the gentle evening light.
