Found throughout the Palearctic. In the UK it’s found on the eastern side of the country south of the Humber.

May and June, with a second brood in August and the first half of September,

The name

Argus comes from the many-eyed shepherd in Greek mythology and the fact that the butterfly has many spots on its underwing.
