This was our first trip together to Australia, which was a combination of work for me, followed by a holiday for the two of us in Sydney and Queensland. In 2006 we weren’t dedicated birders but we still enjoyed seeing the Australian birds, which were very different from those we had in the UK. We photographed a number of these birds during the trip and on these pages we show a few of these along with some of the tourist sites we visited.
I was in Hobart for the biennial meeting of the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR), which consisted of a number of committee meetings along with scientific sessions concerned with Antarctic research. After the meetings were over I flew to Sydney to meet Maggie and start our holiday.
