Joe Overstreet Road is a 5-mile drive through an agricultural area that leads to Lake Kissimmee where there is a boat landing and other facilities. The road itself offers good birding opportunities and as we drove towards the lake we saw Red-shouldered Hawk, Northern Mockingbird, Eastern Meadowlark and Belted Kingfisher on fence posts, while glossy ibis, Palm Warbler and Eastern Phoebe were in the fields.
The boat landing area at the end of Joe Overstreet Road provides an excellent base for photographing birds on Lake Kissimmee. A highlight here was the Black Skimmers. Several birds were making pass after pass across the lake looking for fish and often these were repeated crossings of the same area, giving us several opportunities to photograph the birds.
At the water’s edge we saw a couple of Bald Eagles.
