During the 2018 visit to Lesbos we made one loop around the northern part of the island on 7 May, first driving north from Kalloni to Molyvos, driving along the coast road to Skala Sikaminias and returning down the Napi Valley. Before we got to Molyvos we stopped at a lay-by well-known to birders as an excellent location for migrating birds.

At the lay-by we had excellent views of Eastern Subalpine Warbler and Eastern Orphean Warbler, both target birds for any birder visiting the island.

After birding along the north coast we had lunch in the beautiful fishing village of Skala Sikaminias where we ate at the Anemoessa restaurant. As on our previous visit, there were plenty of cats hoping to get some scraps of food.

Driving back down the Napi Valley we saw birds typical of this rocky, barren environment, including Cretzschmar’s Bunting, Crested Lark and Rock Nuthatch.
